Adding to the Default VerificationMethodKid

Is there a way to add another verification method kind to the standard ones? I have created a profile and tried extending the VerficationMethod enum. Then created another sterotype that extended the "Extended" requirement time but the Verification Method is private and cannot be changed in the extended sterotype.
