Cameo and user profiles becoming full

Postby chris@2hb.com » Tue Feb 13, 2018 12:25 pm

We have noticed that our disk space has been becoming full.

After some investigations we have noticed that what looks to be cea.log files(from a long time ago) and other files in the users profile that seem related to Cameo are still around.

Are there some cleanup procedures for this? What is safe to remove? Is there a way for the users to help clean this up as well.

This is on a Windows machine.

Hello,

Old log files are definitely safe to remove (even removing the current log file is safe if application is not running at the moment of removal). Regarding other files - could you please give the information what files are getting big?

There is no specific procedure for cleaning them up as usually no need arise and each time we look from case to case.

I will have to look around some more. I know some of the logs were a few hundred megabytes.

This is a windows machine and I'm not as familiar with the way to check "where" disks are filling.

We often will start with 40+ gigs a day and with 10 to 12 users on a machine will get to sometimes a few megs of disk space free.

We have 18.5 SP1 talking to a TWC instance. Then at times we will get some gigs back.

Is saving in TWC doing something on the disk before it sends to the TWC server?

Can we do something to adjust where this data goes?

It looks like the restricted directory is the largest by far.

Hi,

Restricted directory contains local cache of the projects and offline project data, if project was saved into "Offline". Local cache depends on project size ant etc.
There have been issues with local cache data cleaner which were fixed on 18.5 SP3 version.
Also I can recommend to decrease count of recent files to save more space. Count is same as Environment Options - General - General - Recent Files List Size.

Kind regards,

Is there a way to move the user profile directories to a new default location?

I don't see anything in the documents and they seem to always use the location of the users Profile directory.

Hello,

Yes, it is possible to move the configuration files to other location. Please check the instructions in <install.root>/readme.html file, part "Configuration", paragraph "To store configuration files in other directory:". We recommend using the way with .properties file and parameter. Please do not forget to use additional backslash before spaces and special symbols (you can check the JAVA_HOME path for example)
