Can I Merge Two Local .mdzip Projects w/o TWC Involved?

Myself and a coworker were each given a copy of the same model/project. We do not have/use Teamwork Cloud as a model server environment. If he sends me a copy of his model containing his edits/additions/deletions, can I simply do a 2-way merge of his updated model and my updated model? I've tried this and failed due to Low Memory errors. Thanks in advance.
