CSV or Excel import in Cameo Systems Modeler 18.5

Postby myron.hecht@aero.org » Tue Jul 04, 2017 3:19 pm

I am attempting to import Excel spreadsheets into Cameo Systems Modeler 18.5. There are two plugins that might be relevant from the relevant web page http://www.magicdraw.com/plugins: Excel Import and CSV import.

However, when I tried to import the Excel Importer plugin, I got a warning message stating that CSM was missing the resource "UML2 Metamodel 2.5 or higher". The error message also referred me to http://www.nomagic.com/products/cameo-s ... deler.html

There was a "resources" table on that page, but the only information appearing was the system requirements. I searched elsewhere and was unable to find anything.

I then tried the CSV importer. However, I got an error message stating that I had the wrong version (CSM 18.5) and that the plug-in only works with 18.0

So, my questions

1. Is it possible to import Excel spreadsheets or CSV files into CSM 18.5? If so, how?

2. Is the UML2 Metamodel resource a part of CSM or is it only a part of MagicDraw? If available for CSM, how do I access and download it?

3. Is there a CSV or Excel plug-in available for CSM 18.5 that has all dependent resources available to a a CSM license?

Thank you

Thank you in advance for your help

Hello,

To import Excel spreadsheets or CSV files to CSM 18.5 you need to install the following plugins/resources:
- CSV Import plugin
- Excel Import plugin
- UML2 Metamodel with attributes sample.

These resources are available separately on CSM as on MagicDraw, also. To install these resources automatically, please do:
1. Go to CSM main menu Tools -> Resource/Plugin Manager.
2. Open Plugins (no cost) section and select CSV Import and Excel Import plugins.
install plugins.png

3. Click Download / Install.
Note: UML2 Metamodel with attributes sample will be installed automatically when installing Excel Import plugin. Otherwise you can install it separately from Sample section bellow.
install UML2 metamodel sample.png

4. After installation, please restart CSM.

To install these resource manually, please do:
1. Download these resources from https://www.magicdraw.com/download_no_cost_plugins#free
2. Go to CSM main menu Tools -> Resource/Plugin Manager
3. Click Import on Resource/Plugin Manager window and browse for these plugins.
4. After installation, please restart CSM.

You can find Excel import user guide at https://docs.nomagic.com/ - > Excel Import UserGuide.pdf (Get started with our tools! section)

Our plugin and product versions compatibility is available at https://www.nomagic.com/support/compatibility.

Please let us know if you have more issues or questions.

Dear Cameo-Team,

I am trying to import requirement tables from Excel into Cameo and installed the plugins. Based on the tutorial you mentioned in this thread the importing of a Schema Class and especially the mapping of a schema class and a target element should be generated some how automatically by using the Wizard or by dragging the excelfile. Both is not working here  so I try to build it manually. This is how it should look like:

This is the point I came so far:

Thank you for your support
