Elements I have created are read only and grayed out

Hello,

When I place model elements on different diagrams, they appear gray, and I am not sure why. I do not have Teamwork Cloud and I have been working on the same model without this issue for months. I suspect I have some issues with my project usages or sharing packages, but I do not know what to do to fix them. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

I think this question would be easier if you gave an example.
Which model element on which diagram?
Is the model element from a project usage or in the model?
