Hide pin names on activity diagram

Postby jfalesi@hotmail.com » Wed Feb 15, 2017 6:13 pm

Hi. Is it possible to hide pin names on activity diagrams? I want to show the object flow but pin names are superfluous for my purposes.
Thanks,
-Jamie

you can right click on the pin, and uncheck 'show name' and 'show type', the picks are located about middle of the submenu when you right click.

Thanks. Is there a way to hide all pin names in all diagrams, like in a profile?

yeah you can hide all pins or certain pins, or force all of them.

This page tells how to do all those settings:

https://docs.nomagic.com/display/MD184/Pin

Displaying pins

To display pins on shapes

1.On the diagram pane, select any number of shapes on which you want to display pins.
2.Open the Select Pins dialog by performing one of the following steps:
- From the shortcut menu, select Display > Display Pins.
- On the diagram toolbar, click Display Related Elements and select Display Pins.

3.In the dialog, select the pins you want to display.

4.In the Layout options area, specify the pins' layout on the shape:
- Top/Bottom - displays pins on the shape from its top to bottom.
- Left/Right - displays pins on the shape from its left to right.

5.When you are finished, click OK.

If you want all Pins to be displayed automatically when creating a new Activity diagram, go to Options > Project on the main menu, and set the Display All Pins in Diagrams option to true.

if you can't figure out how to hide pins you might have the pins option set to true, so after you fix that you'll be able to hide the pins

I'm on 18.1 or something and I had to untick 'true' on my setting then the display options for pins showed up on the smart menu when I select the action shapes on the diagram.

I have solved the problem for myself by hiding the pin name and type and then using control flow links, effectively seeing the activity nodes with their pin as an activity icon. This assists me when using the controller pattern where a higher level service assembles the functionality from lower level services with the higher level service (controller) creating the request objects for the lower levels ervices from the information which is available at that stage. In other words it is noeithera lower level service calling the next nor is the response of one service directly the request for the next.
