Version Number Indication and Model Comparison

Postby bdfears2 » Tue Dec 15, 2015 3:57 am

Model version indication could be made clearer when working with System Modeler 18.2 and Teamwork Server. The model window’s title does not currently indicate if a project has changed since last sync with Teamwork Server. Suggest appending a symbol, perhaps ‘*’, to the title once the model is changed.

As an example, suppose we have a project called ‘Test Model’ which has been committed to produce version 3. The window title shows [Test Model #3]. The model is updated by the user (but not committed). On first change the title would change to [Test Model #3*]. Committing the change would produce [Test Model #4].

On a related note, using the example above, it is not possible to use the comparison tool to compare 3* against 3 (i.e. modified against last baseline). It is however possible to compare 3* against 2. It would be useful to compare the latest “instance” of the model against the last baseline without having to commit the previous changes.

Hello,

If a project has any modifications, a star is added to the Save button. This is valid both for Teamwork and Local projects.

Starting from version 18.2, the comparer engine was completely reworked. At the moment the comparer does not support compare using non-committed/non-saved version. The old comparer still exists in version 18.0 (which is Long Term Release and will be supported until next Long Term Release) and in version 18.1 and earlier.

However, at the moment we are working on next generation repository for collaborative development and version model storage - Cameo Enterprise Data Warehouse (CEDW). The features, planned for upcoming version includes possibility to see the current uncommitted version changes from last committed version before commit, or even comparing whole package to the existing in the last committed version.
