Performance problems with MD 18.4 running in Linux VM

Postby sszymczy » Fri Nov 18, 2016 2:36 am

For some reason we have to use MD running in Linux VM (VirtualBox). Unfortunately MD running in VirtualBox Linux VM (it's Ubuntu 14.04) is practically unusable. Even simple operations like moving a component in a diagram take a dozen of seconds. I tried various settings:
- increased number of CPU cores for VM
- increased VM memory
- changed virtualization method in VirtualBox
- increased MD Java heap memory and stack size
- disabled antialiasing in MD
- increased MD model validation period
- changed Java VM to recommended version
- disabled VM network interface
- increased VM video memory
- various other VM settings

Strange thing is that CPU usage in VM is not very high, the slowdown seems not to be CPU-related. Other strange observation is that moving the mouse pointer seems to speed things up. Other programs in Ubuntu VM seem to run just fine with no performance problems, only MagicDraw is affected.

Any clue how to resolve this?
