TWC Repository Storage

Postby rbrandenburg@caci.com » Tue Mar 13, 2018 11:53 am

Hello, trying to figure out the best solution of how to back-up Repositories and the projects stored within them on a single node TWC installation. Where do the repositories physically exist on the server? Can this be changed so that I can point to a existing partition on the TWC server drives.

I recommend you review the documentation located here: https://docs.nomagic.com/display/TWClou ... umentation, with special emphasis on https://docs.nomagic.com/pages/viewpage ... d=26674687 and https://docs.nomagic.com/display/TWClou ... procedures.
The location of the data is controlled by settings in cassandra.yaml - specifically by the directive data_file_directories.
Cassandra is a database, so the entire database needs to be backed up.
It is important from a performance perspective as well as an operational one, to have the commit logs on a different volume.
For the data backups, if you are creating a snapshot using the nodetool utility (via the scripts), please plan to have a seprate volume equal in size to the data volume, since the snapshot will occupy the same amount of storage. ALso, as you create a new snapshot, delete the previous one - otherwise you will run out of disk space on the backup volume. For PITR, you would back up the snapshots via an external backup process.

Another option, in lieu of snapshots (which are hot backups), is to do cold backups. For a cold backup, you would stop the Teamwork Cloud and Autherver services, run the "nodetool drain" command, shut down the cassandra service, perform your regular file system level backup, and then restart the cassandra, Teamwork Cloud, and Authserver services.
