Best Practices for Teamwork Server 18.3 Migration to TWC 19.

Postby douglas.w.orellana@saic.com » Tue Nov 06, 2018 2:13 pm

Looking to see if anyone has any tips or best practices before my team upgrades our Teamwork Server 18.3 to TWC 19.0? Do we upgrade models to 19.0 first and then migrate? I have tried migrating some models directly and some have work and the ones with UPDM have not. Since the Model conversion is all or nothing, I have been able to migrate individual models after a 19.0 conversion on a local machine and that seems to work but have not had a chance to try the full Teamwork Server migration to 19.0 yet. Any best practices would be appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for the question.
In version 19.0, we have introduced new UPDM 3 version (UAF) which requires additional project migration. But we have ability to stay with UPDM2 which does not require additional project migration.

So, you have two ways how to migrate from Teamwork Server 18.3 to Teamwork Cloud 19.0.

Migration path when stay with UPDM2 version:

1. Change license for Teamwork server in order to accept connections from 19.0 version clients.
2. Start Teamwork Server 19.0.
3. Install Cameo Enterprise Architecture 19.0 client with all resources, e.g. plugins, which are required during opening projects from Teamwork Server. Start Cameo Enterprise Architecture 19.0, go to the main menu Help > Manage UPDM2 / UAF Plugins and select UPDM 2. After this change restart Cameo Enterprise Architecture.
4. Login to the Teamwork Server.
5. Migrate all projects to version 19.0 which are in the Teamwork Server. In order to migrate all project, you may use Collaborate > Migrate Projects to Version 19.0 command.
6. Install TWCloud 19.0. Information how to install Cassandra and TWCloud you may find at
https://docs.nomagic.com/display/TWClou ... ng+started
7. Apply license for TWCloud 19.0. Information about it you may find at
https://docs.nomagic.com/display/TWClou ... ud+license
8. Check if you are able login to the TWCloud from client. Collaborate > Login, specify Teamwork Cloud to Server Type field.
9. Now you need login to Teamwork Server 19.0 again and perform Collaborate > Export Projects to Teamwork Cloud.
Please note, that history will not be migrated. If you want migrate specific project version you need to create branch for specific version. During exporting projects to TWCloud, you will be able to select what you want to export - only Trunk or Trunk with Branches.

Migration path when projects are migrated to UPDM3 version (UAF):

1. Change license for Teamwork server in order to accept connections from 19.0 version clients.
2. Start Teamwork Server 19.0.
3. Install Cameo Enterprise Architecture 19.0 or another 19.0 client with all resources, e.g. plugins, which are required during opening projects from Teamwork Server.
4. Login to the Teamwork Server.
5. Open each project manually, do UPDM migration from version 2 to version 3 (UAF). It will be requested on project load. After migration, Commit the project.
