Running MagicDraw in a Docker Container

Postby praveen.biyyani@ge.com » Tue Jun 26, 2018 7:27 am

Hi,

We are trying to Integrate MagicDraw 18.5 in our Continuous Integration process, It requires MagicDraw to be run in a Docker Container and start in the headless mode, Connect to Team work Cloud and run some commandline plugins to generate some reports. But, I see on the MD Documentation page that "The application cannot be run on the headless device even in a batch mode. The graphical environment is required". Any Suggestions or recommendations on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Praveen B

Have you had any luck working magicdraw into your CI? We are struggling with the same issue on a couple of projects so I am very curious what other people are doing and if it worked.

Hello,

MagicDraw requires UI environment even running command line plugins. The OS where MD is running should have UI (windows or linux with X server).

At http://wiki.bitplan.com/index.php/MagicDraw_in_Docker you'll find a procedure how to run Magicdraw 16.9 in a docker container. I have tested this on an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS machine and a Mac OS HighSiera environment.
