Basic Relational Modeling

Postby christopher.j.hayes@lmco.com » Wed Sep 25, 2019 9:16 am

I am trying to do basic relational database modeling in this tool and find it quite difficult to to basic things, like entering a bunch of columns in a table quickly. There is an incredibly rich set of features, far beyond what I think I need right now.

But how to do things simply? There are so many little access points in the graphic to get different properties views. I want to just hammer in a bunch of columns into a bunch of tables and get on with the joins, produce some DDL and start testing.

Also, should I be creating a Glossary or Data Dictionary so that when I have duplicated column names in different tables, I can just drag them down into the new table? Should be straightforward. I think I just found it by highlighting the column name in the Table graphic, right clicking and hitting Add to <Glossary name>, but I still want to see what people say ... maybe there's a deeper understanding of how to use the Glossary

Is there any tutorial or anything to get going? I'm likely to find the most complicated way before I find the easy way.
