Lifeline Decomposition

Postby edwin.a.shuman@gmail.com » Wed Jul 13, 2016 12:56 pm

I found some old posts on lifeline decomposition from 2010. Friedenthal talks about this topic in Chapter 10 (section 10.9) of " A Practical Guide...". Is this capability supported?

Dear Ted,

The way of decomposing lifeline which is described in S. Friedenthal book "A Practical Guide to SysML" chapter 10 section 10.9 is not supported in our tool.
For the workaround we offer to use "Interaction Use" element with which you will be able to achieve similar effect.

In 2019 SP4 a lifeline has a "Decomposed As" property, with the description "References the Interaction that represents the decomposition."
This sounds like what is desired here.

Unfortunately I have not found a way to populate this field. I cannot select an existing interaction (or drag and drop it). There is no option to create one. Does this feature work? If so, how?

"For the workaround we offer to use "Interaction Use" element with which you will be able to achieve similar effect."
This is not correct.
First, such a use would violate the CoverLifeline validation rule for an interaction use.
Second, this does not execute in the desired fashion in a simulation, as I have discussed in great detail in a support thread.
