reverse engineering

Postby koen.deuze@duo.nl » Mon Feb 01, 2016 8:29 am

Hi all,

I'm new to MagiDraw so maybe my question is a little dumb.... I'm trying to reverse engineer a MS-SQL database in MagicDraw but this database is using Windows Authentication so I can't insert a username and/or password for reverse engineering... we've got it working for database with sql authentication... but not for the database with windows authentication...

thanks for your help!

Hello,

unfortunately there is no way to use Windows Authentication within MagicDraw. You could try changing the authentication mode, connecting to DB, reversing, and changing it back.
If that is not an option, you can try and dump a schema file and then reverse it using MagicDraw. Here are the steps:
1. Connect to SQL server using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
2. Login
3. Right click a database, select Tasks -> Generate Scripts
4. In the third step select ANSI, like this:

5. Reverse the file using MagicDraw

Note that there should be warnings for unsupported database specific statements( like alter triggers etc.). The best way to reverse and get the true data is still from connecting to the server directly.
