CSV Import with Update

Postby cfaurer » Wed Feb 12, 2014 10:45 am

Hello,

I'm trying to update content on BPMNProcesses using CSV Import with Update and the key is the BPMNProcess name. However, rather than updating the existing BPMNProcess elements a new BPMNProcess element is being created.

This can be verified using the Training Center sample model and try updating the BPMNProcesses under the Training Center Processes package.

Thanks,
Cliff

Dear Cliff,

We can import and update the Training Center model without problem. Could you provide us a sample CSV data that you try to import?

Best Regards,

Hello,

Attached please find screenshots of the steps that I used to import the BPMNProcesses and then to try to update each existing BPMNProcess with a description and id.

Thanks,
Cliff

Hello,

What's the status of this issue? Have you been able to recreate the problem using the provided csv file?

Thanks,

Dear Cliff,

Sorry for the late answer.

Yes, now we can reproduce the problem that you found and the issue has been reported to the team.
The fix should be scheduled into the next release, but currently I have no time frame about that yet.

Sorry again for your inconvenience.

Dear Cliff,

We found some workaround to import/update BPMN Process. It might not sound so practical but it works.
You can import data to only 1 location at a time. So, the data has to be separated to multiple-files and the data should contain columns Name and Owner (The elements have to be grouped, the same owner in the same file.)

Here's the sample scenario:

Sample data in the first file:
#,Id,Name,Owner,Documentation
"1",1,Perform Registration to Open Enrollment,,"After receiving inquiry salesman must send customer detailed information about open trainings. After clients confirms participation, salesman registers customer to open training class."
"3",2,Perform Dedicated Training/Consultation,,Process describes the procedure how dedicated training/consultation is organized.

Sample data in the second file:
#,Id,Name,Owner,Documentation
"2",1.1,Perform Open Enrollment,Perform Registration to Open Enrollment,Process describes the procedure how open enrollment is organized by the company.

Sample data in the third file:
#,Id,Name,Owner,Documentation
"4",2.1,Manage Payment,Perform Dedicated Training/Consultation,Process described the procedure how invoice is managed for dedicated training/consultation.

To update the elements under Training Center Processes package elements:
1. Browse the first file.
2. Select "Training Center Processes" to be "Target Package".
3. Select "Activity" to be "Target Element Type".
4. Select "BPMNProcess" to be "Target Stereotype".
5. Click on "Next" button.
6. Map only "name", "ownedcomment" and "id" attributes.
7. Select "name" to be "Key property and then click on "Finish"
The "Perform Registration to Open Enrollment" and "Perform Dedicated Training/Consultation" will be updated.

Before update, Please convert "Perform Registration to Open Enrollment" and "Perform Dedicated Training/Consultation" BPMNProcess element to be "Package" element.
This is needed in order to let it available as a Target Package (in the wizard step 1).
You can follow the step below:
1. Remove stereotype of BPMNProcess elements, they should be "activity" element.
2. Right click on them "Refactor > Convert to", select "Class" element. They should be converted to be "Class" element.
3. Right click on them "Refactor > Convert to", select "Package" element. They should be converted to be Package" element.

To update the elements under "Perform Registration to Open Enrollment package elements"
1. Browse the second file.
2. Select "Perform Registration to Open Enrollment" to be "Target Package".
3. Select "Activity" to be "Target Element Type".
4. Select "BPMNProcess" to be "Target Stereotype".
5. Click on "Next" button.
6. Map only "name", "ownedcomment" and "id" attributes.

Sorry for your inconvenience,

Best Regards,

Hello Supat,

Thanks for this workaround but it's not feasible for the BPMN model that I have, which contains 1,407 BPMNProcesses and is a 6 level nested hierarchy. If I refactor a BPMNProcess then I'll lose all the stereotype tagged values that contain critical eTOM information.

Regards,
Cliff

Dear Cliff,

You can find new updated plugin attached. We've fixed the problem import-updating.
The first step of wizard, you will select the target location that you are going to import data.
Then with your CSV data, the column that will represent Owner, you can leave it blank if the data is at the same level of the target location as selected above.

Please give us a note about your progress. If you have more issue, we will be glad to help you.

Best Regards,
Supat P.

Hello,

Thanks!! The base test worked as expected. I'll let you know if I run into any issues with larger data sets.

Kind Regards,
