Import from XL or CSV - Invalid mapping

Postby david.kearns@partner.state.vt.us » Thu Dec 18, 2014 8:11 am

I am New to Magic Draw (about 12 hours) and I am trying to do an import. I am using Cameo Enterprise Architecture.

I am trying to import a spreadsheet that has one column of capability data (just the name). I have read the XL Import guide and understand that there are three steps do do the import. I have been able to link to the data, and point the attribute in the spreadsheet to the target Capability. This generates the mapping. When I try and run the mapping I get:

Error: Unable to create the element(s), the mapping is invalid.

My guess is that the Capability has a few more required attributes than name, and I need to load those in. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

David

I think that my issue stems from the 'Create Mapping', 'Select Properties' screen. I am not really sure what to choose. Is there some documentation or guidance for this?

Hello David,

Name property is enough for capability.

Looks like you have wrong mapping selected.

Sample mapping should look like that:
connector for name mapping.png

Please find sample (created using Cameo Enterprise Architecture v18.0) with mapping attached and Excel file which was imported.

Please attach the project file and excel if problem can not be solved.

Hi Saulius,

Thanks for the mapping and the xl file. I tried again and the link in my file is not created in then same way that yours is. I tried to paste in a screen shot, but was not able to. The files should be attached.

I tried running the import again and got the same error message. Any help that you can lend is appreciated.

Best,

David

Hello David,

Good to hear.
I tried again and the link in my file is not created in then same way that yours is.

In general mapping links - connectors you need to create by yourself.

I tried to paste in a screen shot, but was not able to.

They can only be attached as files and when placed inline
