Simple Excel Reading Sim Doesn't Work

Postby john.dufour@raytheon.com » Mon Feb 15, 2021 4:36 pm

Hello!
This is my first post. I'm new to MagicDraw and very motivated to learn it. I have a task to demonstrate the usefulness of MagicDraw. I've created the attached model. It's based off of this youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcu3ofPSjqY

I see that my state machine transitions correctly, but I'm not able to verify the Excel read and write operations. I've explored Excel Helper dependencies. I examined MagicDraw's compatibility matrix and did not see any dependencies. According to the matrix, it appears that MagicDraw and the Excel Helper plugin are all that's required. Would you verify this for me please? If there are dependencies, what are they? I noticed in the video that my Containment breakdown does not match the Containment breakdown in the video. The Containment breakdown in the video shows an opaque behavior. I'm not sure how this opaque behavior was established.

Can you tell me why my model runs but does not complete the Excel manipulations?

1,000,000 Thanks!

John

Hi!
Instead of attempting to describe what's wrong with my model, I'd be tremendously grateful if someone would post the most simple model that would read an Excel cell value. Any explanation of your model's workings would be very appreciated. I hope to post up a different model for inspection later today.

Very grateful for your assistance!

John

Hi John,

as far as I can see, the main problem with your model is that the element where you have put your ExcelHelper code is not an opaque behavior. But still I was not able to successfully interact with the Excel file. I get the error "ERROR: Cannot find '"VLookUpExample.xlsx"' from either the project directory or attached file.". This is the same problem that is commented under the video you linked.

Good luck!

Hello John,

Good to talk to you. Please find attached model. It should work as required. Main problem I see Call Behavior Action used instead Opaque Behavior.

Sincerely,
Saulius

I'm trying to parse an Excel file during a simulation, and the simple Excel reading demo seems to fit what I want to do (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcu3ofPSjqY)

However, when I download the Cameo model from the YouTube page, which apparently should already be in working order, I cannot get anything out of the spreadsheet. I am attaching the demo files that I am trying to use.

I am currently using:
- Mac OS X v 11.6.8 Architecture x86_64
- Cameo Systems Modeler 19.0 SP3
- Java Virtual Machine 1.8.0_251

Is there something in my operating environment that I need to check to get this to work for me?

Thanks,
Scott
